In some ways I believe I was destined to be in the mental health field. Before I was even in high school I remember sitting and talking with my mother about mental health issues for hours. Partially, because there was a long history of mental illness in my family and also because I was fascinated by the mind-body connection.
When I began my studies in college it didn’t take me long to determine that Psychology was my major. I took many years off between obtaining my Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree. This was primarily because I was passionate about getting out and connecting with other people. My first full-time position after graduation was working with at-risk youth as an AmeriCorps volunteer.
Several years later I realized that I needed to learn more in order to grow and have the ability to help others on a deeper level. This is when I went back to school to obtain my Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology. The funny thing is, which some of you reading this are already aware of, the more I learn the more that I realize that I need to learn more. That is why I consider myself a “lifetime learner.”
At this point in my career, I have worked in the mental health field for over 10 years and am currently a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) based in Texas who thoroughly enjoys counseling, training, and writing. I find that the internet and social media are wonderful ways to even further connect with and help others while learning more myself. Thus, my website was born!
If you’d like to know more about my specific experiences professionally please feel free to contact me or connect with me on LinkedIn, which has my digital résumé.
